things I do for work...

I manage a vintage clothing store in Philadelphia, so a large part of my day is mending clothes.Quite a bit of the time, it's simple things like fixing seams and sewing hems. However, sometimes, things are s bit more ddifficult (ok, the more difficult repairs get saved for me). Case in point, the latest one (which is taking precedence over some other repairs)
fixing holes in lovely wool plus-fours (a.k.a. knickets) from the 1920s.pretty considerable holes.
First hole mended.I was not taught how to re-weave. I just made it up as I went along. Granted,I have a degree in textile design, so have good knowledge of weave structures.  Time consuming, but well worth the rescue.
2nd set of holes (a binary) in progress. (done before I left work for the night.... many more to go)

just finished...

Well. ok, I finished yesterday... but made it's debut at work today.

I uused vintage Hawaiian fanric, and two tropicalbatiks that mother bought me over decade ago. It's hard to see, but used vintage floriform buttons.I am going to add another row of ribbon just above the bottom ruffle. I used the following pattern.

The worst part was the bottom ruffle. I am not sure just how long it was, but it needed to be gathered into 104" at the bottom of the skirt. In my infinite wisdom, I made the gather stitches in one continuous line. If I make another, I will gather put the gathering stitches on each of the 6 panels separately.
Live and learn...

finished...

I hav finished a bunch of things recently. The Elizabeth I sweater is finished and looks fabulous. I also finished IK Trellis Lace Scarf which is currently being blocked on my bed. I have quite a few other things in the works, which is no surprise.

As for the sewing, I did get a second style designed for the second show in Boerne. However, I didn't sell anything but got heat stroke and a sunburn instead. I have FINALLY redesigned and cut the waistband on the blue-gold heriingbone pants. I still need to decide how I want to treat the cuffs. Tonight's project, methinks.
